In the News: Hattiesburg is on Conde Nast Traveler’s Best Day Trips List

Hattiesburg is on Conde Nast Traveler's Best Day Trips List

We haven’t exactly had the jet setting summer we may have dreamed of earlier this year. And unfortunately, it looks like we may be spending at least a few more weeks inside too. Still, there’s a reason to rejoice: the fact that Hattiesburg is on Conde Nast Traveler’s Best Day Trips List. That means that we don’t have to travel far—or at all—to enjoy an amazing destination spot.

More on Why Hattiesburg is on Conde Nast Traveler’s Best Day Trips List

Hattiesburg earned a spot on Conde Nast Traveler’s Best Day Trips List, along with two other towns: Lafayette, Louisiana and the Northshore. The list focused on areas around New Orleans—and our city set itself apart from the pack. From Okatoma Creek, to the DeSoto National Forest, to the African-American Military History Museum, Hattiesburg offers plenty of places to visit.

We’re also the spot for some delicious cooking too, as the article specifically points out Cotton Blues as a spot for fresh pasta, fried seafood, steaks and more. Luckily for locals, all we have to do is step outside—or order some takeout—to enjoy the amazing qualities that many people would happily travel to discover.

Creating Your Own Safe Hattiesburg Staycation

Right now, we’re all doing our part to flatten the curve. That doesn’t mean that we can’t also create a safe little Hattiesburg day trip for our residents! We’ve come up with a fun model. Feel free to use it for your own mini vacation or tailor it to fit your interests:

Step one: Order takeout or delivery from your favorite place. You can also pack a picnic! Don’t forget to wear a mask if you leave your apartment.

Step two: You’re back home! Put on a swimsuit underneath your clothes.

Step three: Make sure you—and anyone coming with you—has a clean face mask ready. You can also pack some hand sanitizer and cold water bottles. We recommend freezing them for a little bit or adding ice so that they stay cooler for longer. If you like tennis, grab some rackets and tennis balls. Finally, pack some towels and a big blanket.

Step four: Apply your sunscreen, put on your mask, grab your packed items, and head outside.

Step five: Pick out a picnic spot! Summer West has grassy areas and a pavilion ready for use. Then, you can enjoy your tasty food.

Step six: You’ve had your food—and you’ve let it settle. Walk on over to our pool. Whether you’re sunbathing, just putting your feet in, or swimming, you’re in for some resort-style relaxation.

Step seven: Want some more exercise? Tennis is the perfect sport for social distancing! Get in a game at our tennis court.

Step eight: You’ve had a nice, full afternoon of relaxation! Head home for a nice nap at your Summer West Apartment.

A Quick Reminder on Social Distancing

Social distancing is a simple, effective way to protect our whole community. This summer, please remember to wash your hands thoroughly, wear a face mask, and stay six feet or further from those not in your household. Additionally, please listen to all posted signage. Thank you!
